Blogging Instructions

To post a comment, all you have to do is enter a user name and email address.  That’s it.  If spam becomes a problem, we might change that procedure, but I’m hoping that we can “keep it simple”.

Class members can register and author their own posts.  To register, go to www.mvtclass.com and click on “Register” in the left-hand sidebar under “META”.  Type in a user name (it can be simple or whimsical), then enter your email address.  Click the Register button and you’ll receive an email inviting you to log in with your password (which you can change once you log in).  The first time you log in you’ll in the “Users” area — specifically, you’ll be in the area where you can edit “Your Profile”.  Here, you can fill in information about yourself, change your password, etc.  Later, whenever you log in or click on “site admin” (if you’re viewing the site, but are already logged in) you’ll be taken to the “Dashboard” (which is part of a sort of control panel area that includes menu items along the left side like “profile” — it depends on whether you’re a “subscriber”, “author”, etc.  Don’t worry if things seem strange at first, you’re not going to break your computer or the blog.

Now you can “post”.  What this means is that you can post messages yourself.  You do this by going to the admin area and clicking on the “New Post” button at the upper right of the message area, or by clicking “Add New” under the Posts heading on the left.  That lets you write a post.  Click on “Add New”, then choose a title, type in your message, check a one or more categories in the right hand column, then you can either save and continue editing, save the message for later or publish it (the blog will auto-save your draft every so often).  Once you publish, it shows up on the blog under its title: ready for others to leave their comments.

There’s a lot more information available by clicking on “WordPress” under the Admin heading on the main page.
