Pray for Leaders
So we begin a new quarter with a study of “Covenant Communities. Yesterday, Brian made the comment that when we study and interpret Scripture together it’s like lighting several candles instead of one: the combined light is much more powerful and “illuminating”. As I thought of what Brian said driving home, I was reminded of the movie about the young Thomas Edison using a mirror to increase the light and that analogy also applies to our studying scripture in “community”. We not only combine the light of many candles, we reflect that light many times over in our discussion and comments and even our questions.
Today’s scripture is from First Timothy and asks that we prayer for leaders:
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.
3 This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human,
6 who gave himself a ransom for all —this was attested at the right time. 1 Tim 2:1-6 (NRSV)
We should always pray for persons in positions of leadership at the local, state and national levels, but we certainly need to so so now with the challenges facing our country.
