Day 2 — God’s Creation is Good

Is God’s creation good?  What of tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods?  What of the accompanying deaths of innocent people, especially children?  How do we explain disease, famine and genocide?

“God’s creation is good”.  Is this a statement of fact or an expression of faith?  How do you justify your answer?

    Genesis 1:31 -
…and God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
That is fact…faith is our response to His word.
The only explanation that I have for disease, famine and the like is the presence of sin (another fact) in our world.
In Mark 13, Jesus spoke to his disciples about “the end” (where he talks about earthquakes, etc.) and in Mark 13:8 he said…these are the first birth-pangs of the new age. Mark 13:14 – Jesus forwarns us of “the abomination of desolation” – This all may sound somewhat morose, but He leaves us with hope, Mark 13:24-27…after that distress…then you will see the Son of Man coming…

    Keep awake. – Karen

Maybe it’s both. Some things we can’t see, but we hope (Romans 8:24-25), and we have faith (Hebrews 11:1). It is this gift from God that lets us embrace the goodness of his creation even when we don’t always understand.
